7 Incredible Tech Products All About Baby Safety

by Holly on September 25, 2016

DISCLOSURE: I was invited to participate in this blog hop hosted by Owlet and am being compensated for my time. That said, all opinions are as always 100% my own for better or worse!

Here are the facts. Babies drool. And are HARD to take care of.

FACT: Parents drool sometimes too – and we can use all the help we can get!

Now I know there are those out there who look at this and think “who needs all this stuff.” As a mom who has been down many various random roads during my parenting years that have included a preemie, all three kids through the NICU, one babe with Down syndrome and various other challenges, let me just say ME!!!

And frankly, I don’t see a thing wrong with using technology today to assist me in managing and streamlining my family’s lives to help me let go of some of the details and concentrate my energy elsewhere. Because parenting today is more like being in the eye of the hurricane than anything else!

Color me jealous that I’m done having new babies because there is some seriously cool tech out there now that wasn’t around even just a couple years ago! And it would have been SO SO SO good to have had! My favorites that I came across tech wise while I was scouring the web can be found below. As well as my top reason why it made the list (there were more items that would’ve made the list as the kids get older but that may be a post for another time).

It’s been a long while since I’ve spoken up around here but I think my drought is finally over. And the opportunity to share some info near and dear to my daily life is the perfect place to start reinventing things a bit. More on that soon!

First off, a big THANK YOU to Owlet for sponsoring this Baby Safety Blog Hop, where 30 bloggers are sharing their best baby safety tips. Owlet cares about keeping your little ones safe.  Frankly, I would’ve given my left arm to have had their product available six years ago and with all my kids before that SO the decision to take the opportunity to share here was a natural fit.

Before we get on to the tech though, be sure to check out the post  WHAT I WISH I KNEW AS A FIRST TIME MOM from Kathy at Go Adventure Mom that she shared yesterday as a part of the blog hop!

On to the drool worthy tech! And make sure to enter the giveaway below too since some of the giveaway items are on my drool worthy tech list!

Owlet Baby Monitor

WHAT IT DOES: Monitors your baby’s vitals while they are sleeping.

WHY IT MADE THE LIST: I can’t even begin to tell you how much I wish this had been around when my kids were babies. We literally spent thousands via insurance and out-of-pocket to get equipment to monitor Kayla’s oxygen levels, breathing, heart rate, etc. while she was on oxygen for the first three years. I still get the equipment out whenever she is sick. And the equipment is hospital grade and complicated… which made it hard and stressful to deal with. Does this mean that if your child doesn’t have special health concerns that you don’t need this? And I do mean NEED. Absolutely not! Every baby is at risk for breathing problems. It’s just the way it is and some peace of mind is well worth the cost which is quite reasonable. Incidentally I would LOVE to see a version of this that could be used easily with older children as well! And I would have absolutely used this when my babes were in their car seats or anywhere else they were asleep and I couldn’t see them easily. Just another thought!

Evenflo ADVANCED SensorSafe™ Embrace™ DLX Infant Car Seat

WHAT IT DOES: Sensors let you know when your baby is still in the seat or has been unbuckled

WHY IT MADE THE LIST: Ok. So let’s face it. Maybe you aren’t going to forget your baby is still in the seat. But. Who hasn’t had that moment when going somewhere and having a split second when you are so ridiculously tired that it doesn’t seem real for a second and you have to look? Sleep deprivation and memory loss go hand in hand with parenthood as far as I’m concerned. I’m sure there is an official study out there somewhere to back up my claim, but my day to day experiences and those of every parent I know are enough proof for me. Add to that that kids are wily little things. Maybe your baby doesn’t unbuckle themselves yet, but they will! Or perhaps it doesn’t latch all the way when you thought it did, or a helpful older sibling decides to do the unbuckling honors. I’m just saying. Stuff happens. A little extra help is always welcome!

Kinsa Smart Ear Thermometer

WHAT IT DOES: Well. Obviously it’s a thermometer. But it does much more!

WHY IT MADE THE LIST: Kids get sick. And temperature is the obvious go to gauge for symptoms. Keeping track of all that info over the time it takes to decide when and if you have to consult the doctor is yet another place where a technological helper is a beautiful thing. I literally think I would die without my smartphone aka personal assistant. And all I was able to do before was write random notes to myself charting all the info down to tell the pediatrician and hoping I had gotten it right. This would’ve been SO nice to have had years ago! Helpful at any age!

4MOMS Spout Cover

WHAT IT DOES: Monitors the water temperature going into the bath.

WHY IT MADE THE LIST: Again, another gadget helpful at any age. I can tell you that I always worry about the temperature and rarely get it right. My hands are too used to feeling temperatures differently than my kids do. My boys are old enough that this would be awesome for them to know what temperature they like and be able to safely set it. As for using to keep a baby safe, who hasn’t been there and been kind of freaked out at bath time?! Peace of mind.

UviCube UV Light Sanitizer

WHAT IT DOES: UV Light is used to sanitize items – bottles and baby equipment as well as other things that are touched a lot and hard to keep clean.

WHY IT MADE THE LIST: You don’t have to be germophobic to worry about all the gunk out there. It’s a fine line for sure! The idea that I could put the items in and keep them clean, and without worrying about steaming everything, is a beautiful idea! And as another aside I would love to see another of these in a larger size for toys and other items as kids grow too!

4MOMS Self Installing Car Seat

WHAT IT DOES: The name somewhat says it all. No it’s not a robot that will do all the work, but it’s pretty dang close!

WHY IT MADE THE LIST: Car seat installation may be public enemy number one as far as I’m concerned when it comes to baby safety. And a car seat that will adjust and check and monitor itself to be installed correctly is also pretty dang close to a miracle.

iBaby Monitor M6S

WHAT IT DOES: Obviously it monitors baby. But what exactly does that mean these days? Even a few years ago that mean you could hear some sound and maybe if you were lucky video of baby any time you had to leave them in their room.

WHY IT MADE THE LIST: Technology has come far enough that there are a bajillion options out there now for monitors. Which actually makes it much harder to decide which one is best for you. Now, I’m not saying that a simple sound monitor isn’t ok, but if you can go bigger, again it’s more peace of mind. And this one is pretty sweet. We are talking sound, high quality video day and night, dual band wifi and fast connection. Seriously a thing of beauty. And you can wall mount it as well if that’s your style. And just so we are clear, at some point that will always be sooner than you expect, your sweet little darling will start finding ways to get in trouble and a little video monitoring can be a great thing! Think rolling, climbing, etc. It’s amazing how many surprises they have in store for their parents!
